XactSystems (formerly Life & Energy Systems) opened for business in 1990. Our founder, David Powell, is a Registered
Professional Engineer with an MBA from Xavier University. We began by providing consulting and engineering services to the Electric Utility Industry (to pay the bills) while building a firm to provide Medical Practice Management and Computer Services Consulting. During this initial period, we got involved with installing accounting systems for general business on Windows, Apple Macintosh and mixed platform networks, as well as, providing full service computer consulting, network engineering and hardware/software support for our customers.
During our first 10 years, we primarily focused on providing qualified installation services to organizations purchasing accounting systems. We have done more than 140 accounting systems installations, including point-of-sale, multi-module accounting, and entry level systems. We have installed and assisted clients with MAS-90, Flexware, Connected Accounting, POS-IM, Peachtree, MYOB, MacP&L, Quickbooks, and many others.
However, over this period of time we struggled with the problem of finding a flexible, cross-platform accounting solutions for our clients. In 1997, we began developing XactCommerce in Server Side JavaScript as a solution for a film company to help in managing time, expenses and billing and the project took on a life of its own. We started modifying this code to accomodate a computer hardware/software reselling organization with time billing needs (us). Donald W. Jackson, CPA joined our company in 1998, bringing 30 years of General Practice Accounting and Tax Preparation knowledge. And, we hired several genius programmers, no we aren't sharing names, whose work and vision, commitment and patience has made translating our dream of a flexible, powerful, web-based business information system into a practical reality.
Creating XactCommerce™ Web Business and Commerce solutions hosted on XactCommerce™ Servers is now almost the entire concentration of our business. Our XactCommerce™ projects have ranged from simple e-commerce sites to the creation of complete eBusiness Solutions. Some of our various sites and solutions can be seen on our example sites page.
